Band Lessons week of March 30th

Dear Band, I hope you are doing well! This week I am changing things up a little bit on Classroom and on the blog. First, I am sharing daily video check ins! Our first one is here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V4-Nd8piWg0OZ4b1ihcvJBiCEYphxmbh/view?usp=sharing Second, we will still be posting an "all instruments" video, but I am adding more tools to the mix. A program called "Smart Music" is offering free subscriptions to schools. It is an excellent resource and approved for the district. As soon as they get me the login information (they are swamped right now with requests) I will be sharing it with you! Also, in addition to the all instruments lessons, I am going to be posting short videos on music reading. Finally, a HUGE request for help! It is possible we will have to do our 5th grade band recruitment virtually this year! I am looking for a volunteer on each instrument to make a video about why they like their instrument and why they like band. The vide...

Dear Band Students and Parents! I excited to share this video. I have some new learning in this video which I hope makes it very effective. This will work for ALL instruments on the current pages in the book, and also includes our entire rhythm reading unit! Tomorrow I am going to be posting general music lessons and Presto and also adding a new lesson on "Minor Tonality." Hope this helps! Please email me if you need to or comment in classroom!

Band This Week

Dear Band Students and Parents, If you are like me you are experiencing something very new today. Since Monday my children have been doing distance learning non-stop and it can be overwhelming at first! My goal is to be brief, helpful, and create awesome content to keep everyone having fun and practicing!  Please just follow these steps: 1) Join our Google Classroom. This is super easy. Students have already been added by me! The next time you are on classroom you just need to click on the class and accept the invite! Most students have already accepted.  2) Check out the videos and content! I am going to be providing a curriculum exactly as if I was in school with you. The schedule this week is: Wednesday: Flutes and Clarinets Thursday: Saxophones and Trumpets Friday: Trombones and Drums and Presto Over the weekend I will create a jazz band video and post it up, you can access this next week  3) I am HERE! I am here for office hours from 9...

Plan for the coming weeks

Dear Band Parents, I hope you are all doing as well as can be expected! I am emailing about something entirely optional I am doing to hopefully help out.  I am going to be making daily band videos here at home and emailing them out to you daily starting tomorrow. You can pass them onto your children so they can watch on their devices if they like. These are based on our curriculum and mirror as closely as possible what I would be doing in lessons and at rehearsals were we to have school. I want to make clear that these aren't graded assignments. As a parent, I am sitting here with 5 kids trying to keep them happy and learning and not at each other's throats and I am thinking a daily video from the band director to keep kids practicing and learning might help. If these aren't helpful to you feel free to ignore them, but ideally I want to see our students practicing and growing as musicians even if we aren't in school.  Please see the letter from our princi...
