Summer Band 2

Welcome to our second Summer Band Session, Wednesday July 8th!

One of the amazing things about the internet is that it has so many wonderful things to offer. It has bad things too, so we need to be careful about what we are reading online. But there is so much great stuff! On Monday I introduced you to "Fats" Waller and Louis Armstrong, two of the greatest musicians in our country's history. We began learning the song Ain't Misbehavin.

Here is our plan today!

1) Everyone gets to say "hi" in the Zoom meeting! Is there anything you'd like to share with us?

2) Very brief review of norms and brief review of Monday.

3) As part of that review we'll listen to Fats Waller and Louis Armstrong playing Ain't Misbehavin

This is Fats Waller playing Ain't Misbehavin

This is Louis Armstrong playing Ain't Misbehavin

Listening to the above will take around 5 minutes or so.

4) Everyone gets to play what they have so far of Ain't Misbehavin. It doesn't matter how "good" it is! We're still just learning. But we'll go around the room and everyone will get a chance to play and get some feedback.  (around 20 minutes or so)

5) We are going to try to play "Teacher vs. Class" over zoom where we echo sing tonic, dominant, and subdominant patterns (5 minutes)

6) We are going to try creating our own tonic patters today using our instrument. Each person needs to create one pattern. We will go around the Zoom meeting and take turns.

7) We are going to learn how to play dominant patterns this week.

8) Mr. Akter is going to demonstrate how a "Play Along" recording works. Our only assignment is going to be learning the melody to Ain't Misbehavin this week. (3 minutes or so)

10) That's a lot of items for our first session! Your practice assignment is to work on the melody to Ain't Misbehavin.

Have an AMAZING week and we'll see you on Monday!
